Portfolio:
Katie Lawson
—designer, brand strategist, and resident vibe architect behind Moonie. I work with creative entrepreneurs, small business owners, and folks with something to say, helping them translate their vision into branding that actually feels like them.
I didn’t get here through a typical agency path. I learned by doing—designing for my own projects, for local organizations, and eventually, full-scale campaigns like a community magazine. That experience taught me a lot, but more than anything, it made me realize what I’m best at: listening to people, understanding what they’re trying to create, and helping them build the visual identity to support it.
Clients have called me a “vibe witch,” and while that might sound a little woo, it’s pretty spot-on. I’m here to ask the big questions:
What story are we telling? What do you want people to feel? What are we creating space for?
Then I get to work—blending strategy with style to craft logos, moodboards, brand systems, and social content that feel cohesive, intentional, and magnetic.
I work with all kinds of people—musicians, finance coaches, nonprofits, dreamers, doers, and everyone in between. If you’ve got a vision and want to make something meaningful… I’m in.
Let’s make something that feels just right.

The work:

Project 1:
Moonie – Brand Identity & Creative Direction
Client: Myself (Moonie)
Scope: Visual identity, logo design, moodboard, illustration, and brand voice development
Moonie began as a shop in a small town/creative outlet and turned into a full brand with products, a website, a blog, and a mission. I built the brand identity from scratch to reflect the blend of magic, playfulness, and heartfelt design that Moonie represents. The visual system needed to be intentional, flexible, and a little weird in the best way—something that could evolve over time without losing its voice.
This project included:
Hand-drawn logo design (primary + variations)
Color palette & typography pairings
Custom brand illustrated elements & patterns
Voice development for web, packaging & social media
Mood board & brand direction setting the tone for all visuals
Moonie’s branding is a reflection of how I approach every project: start with the feeling, build with strategy, and make it unmistakably you.
Project 2:
Randall Shreve – Social Media Management & Creative Direction
Client: Randall Shreve (Performer, Songwriter, Producer)
Scope: Social media strategy, graphic design, content creation, e-commerce updates, and brand consistency
Randall is a dynamic performer and creative force, and he needed a social media presence that reflected his energy while keeping his brand cohesive and professional. Since 2023, I’ve worked with Randall to manage and elevate his content across platforms—blending polished promotional graphics with authentic behind-the-scenes storytelling.
I currently manage all social accounts for his solo work, his band Randall Shreve and the DeVilles, and The Fabulous Freddie Mercury Tribute. I also maintain his website and update e-commerce content. Occasionally, I coordinate with venues to share and amplify show promotions.
My role includes:
Ongoing social media management & scheduling
Custom graphics for tours, releases, and events
Brand cohesion across Instagram, Facebook & YouTube
Website management and online store maintenance
Promotional coordination with event venues
Strategic posting to increase visibility and engagement
Working with Randall has allowed me to flex both my design skills and content strategy, adapting to the needs of an evolving performer and maintaining a brand that’s equal parts theatrical, personal, and sleek.
“Working with Katie is one of the best decisions I’ve made for my career. Since she took over my website and social media, I’ve been able to focus more on my strengths while always being confident that she has me properly represented online. It’s been a game-changer for my peace of mind, and for the success of my business.”
Project 3:
Chamber Magazine – Editorial Design & Art Direction
Client: Mena/Polk County Chamber of Commerce
Scope: Full magazine layout, editorial design, writing, creative direction, content management
This was my first full magazine project—start to finish. I handled layout, some of the photography, typography, imagery, and overall visual direction for a 60+ page publication focused on community, tourism, and local business. Oh, and the directory and a some of the ads. Almost all the choices were mine except the cover photo which was a local contest winner. While I was learning as I went, the result was a clean, cohesive piece that represented the town’s identity and served as a valuable marketing tool.
My role included:
Editorial layout & art direction for the full magazine
Typography, formatting, and print-ready design
Working within tight visual restrictions while still finding moments for creative flair
Collaborating with multiple contributors and managing content flow
Designing with clarity, accessibility, and small-town charm in mind
This project challenged me to stay organized, work quickly, and deliver something real into the world—teaching me a lot about structure, hierarchy, and designing with function in mind.
Here are some of my favorite pages until I get the whole thing up.
Mood & Meaning:
Brand Boards + Visual Strategy
This section showcases brand boards I created for small businesses and personal brands looking for visuals that actually feel like them. These boards guide everything from logo use to vibe-setting visuals, typography pairings, and color palettes—forming the backbone of a brand’s visual identity.
Each board includes:
A defined color palette
Typography pairings
Logo usage (if applicable)
Visual tone & direction
Supporting elements like textures, patterns, or inspiration
These boards are included with all final brand packages. They were originally created in Canva, but I’ve since stepped up my design tools (hello, Affinity!) to give future clients even more refinement and flexibility—without losing that personal touch that makes them work.
Hand-Drawn Logos & Illustrations:
Signature Style Showcase
From podcast logos to business cards, tourist merch to custom stickers, this section brings together a colorful mix of my illustration-forward work. These projects were commissions, except the Support Your Local Weirdo (It’s Moonie’s) —but all of them show the range and spirit I bring to visual storytelling.
Includes:
Podcast and performer logos
Sticker and button graphics for community events
Business graphics for cards and signage
Tourism illustrations and apparel art
Here’s a very weird mash-up of some of my favorites.
Mood board Magic:
Vibes + Vision Exploration
Diamond Legacy – Brand Moodboard & Early Concept Sketches
Client: Diamond Legacy Wealth Management
Scope: Moodboard, brand direction, type exploration, logo sketch concepts
When Holly came to me, she had only the name of her future business and a vision of how she wanted it to feel—confident, elevated, and rooted in timeless power. She shared character references and inspiration from women she admired, but not much else. From that foundation, I built a brand moodboard and creative direction to help her see the visual story behind the name.
This presentation includes rough sketches of potential logos—intentionally messy and exploratory. I believe in showing the early, unfiltered stage of the creative process because it's how we work past the obvious to find what really fits.
The moodboard established a tone that blended sophistication with strength, creating a space for future visuals to emerge that reflect legacy, clarity, and grounded confidence.
*Final branding not shown by client request.
